“Las Constituyentes” era un libro pendiente en la colección de publicaciones de las Cortes Generales y el Ministerio de la Presidencia. Pendiente porque todas las miradas históricas que ha habido sobre el parlamentarismo español, incluso las muchas interpretaciones que se han realizado sobre el período político de la transición, han obviado el papel de las primeras mujeres parlamentarias, que formaron parte de uno de los momentos políticos más trascendentales de la historia reciente de España.
Este libro pretende hacer justicia, y recordar precisamente el papel que jugaron en los principales debates políticos de la legislatura, las mueres que tuvieron la oportunidad de representar al pueblo español y alas españolas en las primeras Cortes Generales de la democracia. Fueron 21 Diputadas y 6 Senadoras, que defendieron con una gran dignidad y responsabilidad los intereses de los españoles y españolas de la época. Muchas de ellas son hoy unas auténticas desconocidas en el panorama político actual, muy pocas continúan activas en el espacio político y social de donde venían, pero todas ellas contribuyeron activamente en las reformas que se impulsaron desde el Parlamento e hicieron posible trasladar al debate político algunos derechos de las mujeres, que hasta ahora habían sido ignorados. También fue clave su papel en la Comisión Constitucional del Congreso.
Este trabajo fue encargado a la Red de Mujeres Constitucionalistas, que han hecho un recorrido llamativo por ese momento histórico, aportando un análisis sugerente. Sin duda permite conocer con mayor rigor, uno de los momentos más interesantes del parlamentarismo reciente de nuestro país. En estos momentos en el que el Parlamento español se cuenta con una participación que se acerca al equilibrio de mujeres y hombres, este libro representa un homenaje al trabajo político de estas extraordinarias mujeres.

Simon Professor of Education, Management, and Organizational Behavior at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He has also been a Visiting Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School.
