Dr Jakob Thomä is a Professor in Practice for Sustainable Finance and Senior Fellow at the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance. He is the Co-founder and Research Director of Theia Finance Labs (formerly known as the 2° Investing Initiative).
Jakob Thomä is one of the leading global experts on sustainable finance and long-term risks, and entrepreneur with a track record of incubating commercial and non-commercial sustainability solutions. He co-founded Theia Finance Labs (formerly 2DII Germany) where he now serves as
Research Director, and leads the Inevitable Policy Response Programme as Project Director. Jakob is also Professor in Practice at SOAS, University of London. His first book «Der Kill Score: Auf der Spur unseres ökologischen und sozialen Fußabdruck» is a true crime narrative about the 500 million victims of our non-sustainable choices.
Over the past 10 years, Jakob has led the development of a range of sustainability solutions, with a focus on designing business models for both public and commercial goods. Jakob co-founded 2° Investing Initiative America and led the incubation of PACTA, the first methodology
and tool to measure the alignment of financial portfolios with climate goals, and today one of the most widely used alignment methodologies in the world.
He led the negotations of the PACTA transfer to RMI in 2022. Jakob also led the incubation of MyFairMoney (MeinFairMögen), now with 2DII France, and co-led the incubation of AssetResolution (now AssetImpact, with GRESB). Current ventures include 1in1000, and TransitionMonitor, as well as tilt, a venture on climate-related SME data.
Jakob has served as advisor to central banks around the world including the Japanese Financial Services Agency, the Brazilian Central Bank, the Bank of Thailand, the Bank of England, the Bundesbank, the Dutch Central Bank, and EIOPA. He holds a PhD in Finance from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers.
