International Mediation

Breaking Business Deadlock*

Third Edition is an essentiai guide to the effective and timely resolution of international business disputes.

There have truly been remarkable changes ¡n the recognition of mediation since we both began working in this field and working together on the project of founding CEDR to promote mediation in the ÜK and internationally. Even since the last edition of this book, mediation understanding and usage has grown exponentially. This is most obvious at an institutional level in the way traditional international arbitration bodies have promoted theirown mediation rules and embraced mediation contract precedents, and by the ongoing initiatives to incorpórate mediation formally into the practice of many ¡ntergovernmental bodies including within investor-state disputes, once the solé preserve of international arbitration.

Providing a picture of what happens in international mediation and how it is structured, and containing practical guidance designed to enable all parties to benefit fully from the process, it answers questions such as:

  • How does mediation work and what will • it cost?
  • What are the limitations?
  • What skills are required
  • How long will it take
  • How are the outcomes enfoced?
  • And how can business best use mediation?

  • The case histories included demónstrate how and why international mediation works and why it is such a powerful tool in resolving business conflict.
